Ah, to be a kid again! When you could spin around until you fell to the ground in fits of laughter and people found it endearing rather than concerning.
As we grow older, we become more aware of social expectations, and are more motivated to follow them. This helps us to function in an adult world, but sadly means that we often stop doing the things that helped us regulate.
Have a think about the things that your parents and teachers were always telling you to stop doing, the things that you perhaps in more subtle ways still do (especially when there is no one else around). These are clues that your younger self is still in there and still needs soothing the way they always did.
Just because we look and act like adults, doesn't mean we don't have the same needs to soothe ourselves. It's more likely that we've just got better at hiding that need, even from ourselves.
So go on! Indulge in a hammock and really put in some time cocooned in there gently swaying back and forth, chew bubblegum, see if you can still do a handstand. Take notice of how good it feels just to be doing the things that feel good.
Now is a great time to remind yourself of what helps you to feel good, and figure out how to do more of it.
What is the thing that you were always doing as a kid? I wonder what your parents remember.....
